"Magical Mermaid" - It Is An Old Favorite

I know that right now all the excitement is for the new 2020 January to June Mini Catalogue but there are so many marvelous wonders in the 2019-2020 Main Stampin'Up Catalogue.  One of these remarkable cling stamp sets is the "Magical Mermaid".

I have always loved this set and this is why....with a bit of re-inker, watercolor paper and an aqua painter you can create a stunning background in which these "Mermaids" can come to life.

I stamped the far off mermaid in Basic Grey, the sea grass in Memento Black Ink, and stamped the greeting with Versa Mark Ink on Basic Black card stock and put White stampin' emboss powder over top and heat set it with a Stampin'Up heat tool.

The Mermaid, I stamped her twice. The first time on Whisper White card stock that I had left over from another project (using up my odds and ends.) I used the Stampin' Blends Soft Suede combo pack to do her hair but I left her body alone. I like using the Color lifter to lighten the color that I have put down.  You can really see it on her tail...the two highlighted strokes. That is done with a Color lifter.  It is a great way to add highlights to your image by simply stroking over the area you want light.

Now her tail..... I had watercolored the same color combo Whisper White card stock. I let it dry and stamped just the tail portion of my image in the Memento black Ink and cut it out and put it over top the existing tail of my Mermaid.  (I layered my pieces to give it dimension.)

So my colors for the background, I used Pacific Point, Bermuda Bay, Granny Apple Green, and Coastal Cabana.  Lightly spritz the watercolor paper before you begin and loosely add the color making sure you keep the darker color at the bottom and the lighter at the top.  I like using the Aqua Painter for this because I can gently squeeze the barrel for more moisture on my brush as I go.
